Exploring Data on the Web
Interactive HTML enables JMP customers to share reports that contain dynamic graphs so that even users who don't have JMP can explore the data.
The JMP report is saved as a web page in interactive HTML format, which can be e-mailed or published on a website. Users then explore the data as they would in JMP. Interactive HTML supports a subset of features from JMP.
Explore Interactive Features
With your cursor or finger, you can view information about data points, table cells, and more.
- On a desktop computer, place your cursor over the feature (such as a data point or table cell) to view its values.
- On a mobile device (such as a tablet computer or smartphone), tap the feature.
The graph below shows a bivariate fit using Iris.jmp, a JMP sample data table containing Fisher's measurements of three different iris species.
The table below shows a p-value with its associated description.
Open and Close Report Sections
Graphs and tables that were closed when the page was created remain closed in the web page until you open them. Open or close report sections by clicking or tapping the outline buttons in the report.
This example demonstrates how to open the Lack of Fit table. The Analysis of Variance and Parameter Estimates tables are already open.
Modify the Graphs
Use the menus to change the appearance of graphic displays.
This example shows how to increase the size of scatterplot markers.
View Linked Data
In all graphs, selected rows are linked. To select rows, click or tap any data shown in a graph (such as a marker or histogram bar).
In this example, a histogram bar has been selected, and the corresponding rows are highlighted in all three graphs.
Change Selection Mode
At the top of the report, the first pair of toggle buttons enables you to select single or multiple objects. By default, the first button in this pair is pressed. This enables you to select one object at a time, and deselect all others.
To select multiple objects, click or tap the second toggle button. This enables you to select or deselect multiple objects. In this example, three histogram bars have been selected.
Change Focus Mode
The second pair of toggle buttons at the top of the report enables you to focus on the report as a whole, or on the data. By default, the first button in this pair is pressed, which enables you to identify objects. On mobile devices, this button also enables you to scroll and zoom the report.
To focus on the data, click or tap the second toggle button. This enables you to drag a rectangle to select rows and highlight them in all graphs. This feature, called brushing, is useful to explore the structure of multivariate data.
- On a desktop computer, drag your cursor over the graph to create a rectangle.
- On a mobile device, drag with one finger or pinch with two fingers to create a rectangle.
Drag the center of the rectangle to move it, or the corners to resize it.
Notes
- To view interactive HTML, JavaScript must be enabled in your browser. (All browsers enable JavaScript by default.)
- For Internet Explorer, version 11 at a minimum is required. Earlier versions do not perform as well and do not support all features.
- On Android devices, the default Android browser is not supported. Google Chrome performs better and is easy to download.
- Use a desktop, laptop, or tablet. Phones do not support all interactive HTML features, and performance varies greatly across devices.
