JMPer Cable: Technical blog on all things JMP

JMPer Cable is a technical blog for JMP® users of all kinds—from beginners to the most savvy. Its posts explore JMP how-to information, tips and tricks and details of specific JMP features.

A recent post, "Minimize and Maximize Functions in JSL," offers a detailed explanation of updates to the Minimize() and Maximize() JSL functions available with JMP 13. While most JMP users will find pre-built platforms (such as Fit Y by X and Nonlinear) to be sufficient to address their optimization problems, this isn’t always the case. The post explains (with examples) how Minimize and Maximize functions offer great flexibility and give you access to the same optimizers that JMP developers take advantage of when creating JMP platforms.

Check out this post and other useful technical details in JMPer Cable.

Christine Anderson-Cook in lineup of Discovery speakers

The Discovery Summit conference offers the opportunity to hear expert keynote speakers present a variety of fascinating perspectives. This year in St. Louis will be no exception. A speaker to look forward to is Christine Anderson-Cook, a research scientist at Los Alamos National Laboratory who has written extensively on decision making with multiple, often competing, objectives. She gives suggestions for objectively considering tradeoffs, resulting in better decisions.

Anderson-Cook currently leads projects on complex system reliability, nonproliferation, malware detection and statistical process control. In addition to numerous publications, she has co-authored a popular book on response surface methodology with Raymond Myers and Douglas Montgomery.

You'll want to be at the conference to hear Anderson-Cook and other keynote speakers attending Discovery Summit 2017. Registration is now open—you can register for the conference here.

Have you tried...

...virtual joins in JMP?  You may have data that you need to access in a report from an additional data table but don't want to join those tables. The virtual join feature enables a main data table to access data from auxiliary tables without physically joining the tables. Using virtual join saves memory because the same data is not replicated in every referencing table.  Watch this video and try using the virtual join feature with your own data.

See JMP Tips and Tricks for more short videos on using JMP.
