Usage Note 62080: JMP® security window appears when opening files on network drive
Due to a threat of malicious code being transported in JMP® files, JMP 14 and newer versions includes a security feature to block the immediate launch of JSL code in data tables and JSL scripts that are downloaded. This feature can be triggered by data files stored on a network drive that is not registered with Windows as a secure location. Here is how to add your network location as a trusted local intranet zone.
Note: Windows 11 no longer shows an option for Internet Options. The utility is present but not visible. You will need to select Settings from the Start menu and search for "internet options" to find it.
- To add a network location to the Windows trusted local internet zone, first open the Control Panel. Then open the Internet Options icon.
- Navigate to the Security tab.
- Open the local intranet zone. Now click the Sites button.
- When the Local intranet window opens, click the Advanced button.
- In the Local intranet Advanced settings window, you can add the network location of JMP files. You need two entries for each location and both require the network location server name. You can find the network location server name by looking at your My Computer window. The server name is in parentheses. See the example image below.
First, enter the server name of the network location in the text box and click Add. In the example below, the server name is vboxsvr.
You also need to enter the file URL, which appears as file://server. Type in the file URL in the text box and click Add. In the example below, the file URL is file:// vboxsvr.
- Close all the windows and reboot the computer. Once you are logged back in, you should be able to access your JMP files at the configured network location without the JMP Security window appearing.
If this JMP Note does not resolve the appearance of the JMP Security window, please contact a system specialist with JMP Technical Support.
