Overview of Constant Stress ALT Designs

Use constant stress accelerated life testing when product reliability at normal use conditions is high. You test the product under conditions that are more severe than normal to accelerate the time until failures occur. Then you use this accelerated failure data to predict product reliability at normal use conditions.

Such a test is called an accelerated life test (ALT). The factors that are set to levels that accelerate the time to failure are called acceleration factors. When the acceleration is at a constant level, the ALT is a constant stress ALT. The models for accelerated life tests are typically nonlinear models. For more information about nonlinear models, see Statistical Details for Nonlinear Models.

The Constant Stress ALT Design platform creates and evaluates main effects designs for situations that involve up to three constant stress acceleration factors. You can select a design that is optimized for estimating quantiles or failure probabilities.

Tip: To save your constant stress ALT test plans, use File > Save As to save as a *.jmpdoe file.
